Coming Home to Yourself: Emotional Healing from Within

Updated: Jun 4

Whether it's anxiety in the chest, anger in the jaw, or grief like a lump in the throat — your body holds emotional experiences long after the moment has passed.

When emotions are not fully processed, they become trapped — turning into symptoms like chronic stress, numbness, physical tension, or a deep feeling of being lost.

Many of my clients come to me saying:

"I don’t know who I am anymore. I feel stuck, disconnected — like I’ve lost my direction."

It reminds me of a verse from Joni Mitchell’s song 'Woodstock':

I don't know who I am

But, you know, life is for learning

We are stardust

We are golden

And we've got to get ourselves

Back to the garden...

If I were to add to that, I’d say:

Back to the garden, and back home — to who we truly are beneath all the noise.

Emotional Release Isn’t Just a Feeling — It’s a Shift

The moment we begin to release trapped emotional energy from the body, people often describe a sensation of lightness. As if a burden has lifted. As if they’re coming home to themselves after years of being disconnected.

This is more than relaxation — it’s the realignment of your inner world.

My clients often say things like:

"I didn’t even know I was carrying this much. And now I feel space inside me again."

Have you ever felt a tight chest from anxiety, or a heaviness in your limbs that no sleep could fix?

That’s not just in your head — your body is speaking.

Science is finally catching up with what so many of us already sense: emotions live in the body. They shape how we stand, breathe, move — even how we feel about who we are.

 Emotional body maps, emotions labeled.

A groundbreaking study from Finland, reported by NPR, found that people consistently feel emotions in specific areas of their bodies. Love, for example, is often felt all over — a warm glow that expands through the chest and limbs. Depression, on the other hand, brings heaviness to the limbs and numbness across the body.

This research powerfully validates what many of my clients have intuitively described: that emotions live in the body — not just in the mind.
